Cornwall Part 1: Gwel an Mor

Last month my family and I spent a lovely, well-rested week in Cornwall. We enjoyed everything about our UK holiday: the rugged coast, picturesque fishing villages, delicious sea food, and the break from city life.

More importantly, we were particularly happy with our home away from home, a self-catering lodge at the resort, Gwel an Mor . Consisting of several two-story lodges, the resort is located near the coastal village of Portreath. It has accrued a number of travel awards. The Guardian recently named it one of the UK's Top Ten Coastal holidays.

We found Gwel perfect for our little family. It was incredibly child-friendly, from stair gates inside the lodge to the indoor pool and ranger-led wildlife activities. It was also quiet and peaceful, truly one with it's local scenery.

Our lodge was tastefully furnished in simple Scandinavian style. At Gwel, lodge layouts are 'upside down', providing ample light and views of the sea into the top floor living areas.  Bathrooms and kitchens are fully-equipped, and the bedrooms are roomy and comfortable. All lodges have free wifi, satellite TV, unlimited use of the gym/indoor pool and views of the sea.

There is also a restaurant and spa on-site. The spa is very small so make sure to book early. And while it's 'self-catering', the resort will provide concierge-like services and are happy to help with bookings or offer advice.

You can hire a Gwel an Mor lodge for a short break stay or a week. I think it would be perfect for a family holiday, family reunion, or for holidaying with friends. If you are a looking for time-out from the chaos of everyday life, Cornwall's Gwel an Mor just might be the remedy you need!
