My mother and I are visiting Italy next month and like any smart traveller, we've both done a fair bit of research in advance. It got me thinking about my favourite methods of holiday research and planning. Of course, recommendations from friends, family and people you trust is invaluable, but sometimes you need to dig a little deeper and find out even more! That's when I turn to my favourite travel websites:
Trip Advisor: I love seeing scanning the reviews for everything from hotels and transport to restaurants and tour guides. Great to be warned of a potentially scary hotel or horrible customer service (although there are some insanely picky people who can't seem to let go of the oddest things...) or hear about a hotel that's family-friendly and top-notch. I also like that you can see of chart of how many 5 stars, 4 stars, etc, reviews have been given, and see the general consensus.
Conde Nast Traveller: They pick out the best of the best for you. From luxurious to budget-friendly, from popular tourist must-see's to secret off the beaten track wonders. In fact, one of my favourite discoveries in Mallorca was because of a CN Traveller guide. I usually cross-check their accommodation and restaurants recommendations on Trip Advisor.
