Days Out: Roald Dahl Museum

My six-year-old daughter is really enjoying Roald Dahl these days (and it's so fun to read the books along with her). Since ordering this box set a few months ago, I decided a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, was in order. It's just an hour outside London and once outside of the city, a beautiful drive (you can also take the train from Marylebone Station).

I was a little weary when we arrived — just three rooms? How long would this trip last... but really, it was fantastic! Each room is interactive, sharing Roald Dahl's life, stories, and inspiration through creative methods. My kids enjoyed dressing up as his characters, exploring his writing hut (and sitting in his famous green chair), reading about his cheeky boyhood stories, and creating pictures and funny words in the storybook room. There is a definite license to explore at this museum which is really refreshing for children (and parents)!

Is it possible to love Roald Dahl even more? When we left my daughter said, Roald Dahl is a genius! I couldn't agree more...

(A fitting end to the day... some chocolate cake from Twit Café.)

(I thought this sign was a great reminder and took so I could re-read it myself.)

*(Great Missenden is where Roald Dahl lived for 35 years. The museum is aimed at children ages 6-12. However, my 4-year-old also had a great time.)
